Kawlbem village is in the north-eastern part of Mizoram at a coordinate of latitude 23.8699945°N, 93.3055316°E longitude. Kawlbem is a small village in the east of Mizoram with a population of 1700 and 300 houses. 200 families are engaged in jhum cultivation while 12 families practice WRC. Though farming is the dominant livelihood in kawlbem, there is no proper marketing link to other places. The farmers have to deal with marketing of their produce, due to lack of market linkage and storage facilities, they only produce enough for their sustainance. The village has a thick and large forest area and shares a border line with Myanmar.
