INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS 2018

The 105th Indian Science Congress was started on 16th March, 2018 at Imphal, the capital of Manipur. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 105th Indian Science Congress on 16th March (Friday) at the Manipur University. The focal theme of the congress is “Reaching the Unreached through Science and Technology.” In his speech, the Prime Minister urged the community to inculcate a scientific temper among the youth, and stressed that the Indian government has come up with new initiatives to promote research and development. Dr. Najma Heptullah, Governor of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Ministry of Science & Technology, Prof. Achyuta Samamta, General President, Indian Science Congress (ISCA) and Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University were present.

The event lasted for four days and was held at Manipur University campus. More than 5000 scientists, senior science ministry officials, scholars, students and numerous enthusiastic audiences participated in the 105th Indian Science Congress. 

The five day-long event includes various activities like symposiums, posters and oral presentations, workshops, lectures and cultural events. Also numerous numbers of stalls were set-up, exhibiting the various works carried out by different departments and organizations around the country. 

MISTIC team which comprised of Mr. Davy Lalruatliana, Scientific Officer and Mr. John Lalchhuanawma Sailo, Technical Assistant participated in the Science Expo where various activities and achievements of Mizoram in the field of Science & Technology are displayed.

 

GLOBAL BIO INDIA 2019

The first Global Bio-India 2019 was organised by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India along with its Public Sector Undertaking, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) from 21st -23rd November 2019 at Exhibition Grounds, Aerocity New Delhi. The associated partners for this event were Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE) and Invest India. 

Global Bio India 2019 is a mega international congregation of biotechnology stakeholders, including international bodies, regulatory bodies, Central and State Ministries, SMEs, large industries, bioclusters, research institutes, investors, and the startup ecosystem.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Union Minister for Science and Technology, Health and Family Welfare and Earth Sciences and the Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Shri Dharmendra Pradhan with Dr Renu Swarup, Secretary DBT and Chairperson BIRAC. Hon’ble Minister for Science and Technology also inaugurated the Global Bio-India exhibition.

The Mizoram team was coordinated by MISTIC with participation from Mizoram University and Pachhunga University College. Team members  were:

  • Dr. Lallawmsanga, Scientific Officer, DBT BioNEST, MZU
  • Lalramnghaki, Research Scholar, PUC

The Mizoram Team participated in the Exhibition where they displayed posters showing the biotech potentials of Mizoram and showcased bio products of Mizoram.

Dr. Lalchhandami Tochhawng was also the speaker at the State Connect Session on 21st November 2019 where she discussed the Biotechnology initiatives of Mizoram.

PARTICIPATION IN IISF 2019

India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019 was organized during 5th – 8th November 2019 at Science City, Kolkata. The four-day event was jointly organised by the Union Ministries of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences as well as Health and Family Welfare in association with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA).

The theme for this year’s festival is – RISEN India ‘Research, Innovation, and Science Empowering the Nation’.Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the festival with the message that science should not just be inventive but also innovative and research not just influential but also inspirational. The festival consisted of 28 different events which were organized at various places viz., Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Science City, SRFTI, Bose Institute, IACS & IICB, Kolkata.

MISTIC participated in the events of ;

  1. State S&T Ministers Conclave (SSTMC)
  2. Young Scientists Conference (YSC)
  3. Women Scientists & Entrepreneurs Conclave
  4. Mega Science, Technology Industry Expo

The Chief Scientific Officer and Member Secretary of Mizoram Science, Technology and Innovation Council (MISTIC), Dr. R.K. Lallianthanga attended the State S&T Ministers Conclave (SSTMC) which was held at Biswa Bangla Convention Center, Kolkata.

MISTIC team which comprised of Mr. Joel Lalbiakkima, Scientific Officer, Mr. John Lalchhuanawma Sailo, Technical Assistant and Mr. R. Vanneihtluanga, Technical Assistant participated in the Mega Science, Technology & Industry Expo held at Science City, Kolkata. For exhibiting items, a stall was provided for all the participants. Here, in this Mega Expo event, various activities undertaken by MISTIC were depicted in pictorial form and some of the remarkable achievements like GI registration and documentation of Mizo traditional cloths (Mizo puan) displayed were the star attraction .

In this Mega Science, Technology Industry Expo, various entrepreneurs, science & technology related producers and manufactures, institutions like IIT, ICMR, etc., showcased their outstanding contribution in science & technology and Industry. Also various branches of Department of Science & Technology like ISRO, DRDO, BRAHMOS, State Council of Science and Technology etc., had an exposure and showcasing of their products and activities which were all eye-catching, worthwhile and interesting for the visitors.

In the Women Scientists & Entrepreneurs Conclave which was held at Biswa Bangla Convention Center. Dr. Lalchhandami Tochhawng, Scientific Officer, MISTIC and Vanlalmuansangi, Scientist, MIRSAC had poster presentation. Dr. Lalchhandami Tochhawng, Scientific Officer, MISTIC was awarded with the Best Poster Presentation in research category. Also in the event of Young Scientists Conference (YSC), Mr. Lalthanpuia, Scientist-B, MISTIC and Mr. Robert Lalchhanhima Sailo, Senior Scientist, MIRSAC had a poster presentation.

The four-day event, India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019 held in Kolkata was concluded on the 8th November 2019.
