About PIC

     Under the Patent Facilitation Programme (PFP) implemented by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, the Patent Facilitating Cell (PFC) was established at the Technology, Information, Forecasting Assessment Council (TIFAC) (an autonomous body of the Department) and subsequently 26 Patent Information Centres (PICs) in various state Science & Technology Council.

     As a part of this programme, the Patent Information Centre (PIC) was established under the aegis of the Mizoram Science Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC) for the state of Mizoram during the Financial year 2010-2011, whose functions are to engage in:

  • Creating awareness and extending assistance on protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) including patents, trademarks, copyright, industrial design, geographical indication, etc. at the state level.
  • In addition, they are also mandated to provide assistance to the inventors from Govt. organizations, Grass-root innovators, and Central & State Universities, for patent searches to find out the potential and assessment of the invention.
  • Further providing technical assistance in filing, prosecuting, and maintaining patents on a sustained basis on behalf of Government R&D Institutes and Academic Institutions.

     The Patent Information Centre (PIC) has collaborated with various Institutions from the State, and to further promote and facilitate Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), it has established Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cells in colleges and universities.
