GI for five Mizo traditional Puan
A remarkable activity of the Patent Information Center (PIC) was the successful registration of five Mizo traditional puan (cloth) - Puanchei, Hmaram, Tawlhlohpuan, Ngotekherh and Pawndum under the Geographical Indication Registry, Chennai. Now, all the five Mizo Puan has a GI tag.
The registration is done for the Art & Culture Department of the State Government who serves as the proprietor.
The Geographical Indication documents were handed over to Art & Culture Department, Govt. of Mizoram at Secretariat Conference Hall, Aizawl on 4th October 2019. Senior Scientific Officer and Scientist-B of the Council are also a member in the Inspection Committee of the registered GIs.
